In her role as MQBS (Macquarie Business School) Associate Dean Learning and Teaching to early 2021, Professor Leonie Tickle had responsibility for leading colleagues to deliver a quality learning experience for the School’s 16,000 students across strategic initiatives in teaching innovation, digital, work-integrated learning, employability, student engagement, and staff development. Leonie spearheaded innovative initiatives to uplift teaching quality and student experience that resulted in significant improvement in QILT SES results. She inspired and empowered her community of teaching professionals, creating a staff teaching excellence online toolkit that received over 165,000 hits.
“I regard the most important part of my role as inspiring colleagues to think differently about teaching, empowering them with skills, and engaging them in a connected and collaborative community.”
She also led the creation of a range of student experience initiatives including Course Compass, the Dean’s Scholars program and the Young Leaders program.
“The Dean’s Scholars Program has really allowed students like me to develop critical skills, meet like-minded people and get the most out of the university experience. I have made life-long friends and developed an excellent professional network.” – Dean’s Scholar
The Assessment Panel commended Leonie’s ability to actively foster student engagement through a variety of transformative learning experiences, including external visits that allowed students to understand the corporate world, innovative exercises, and shared experiences.
