There have recently been some changes to the Assessment Policy to provide greater clarity and make it easier to navigate.  Here are the key highlights, now live on Policy Central:

Unit Guides

Two things to note:

As of Session 2, 2018 the Unit Guide publication date for both external and internal units has been standardised. Unit guides must be published two weeks before the teaching start date. For Session 2 2018, this is Monday 16 July.

The Unit Guide policy is now Schedule 6 of the Assessment Policy rather than a separate policy.

Rubrics

Now defined as a grading tool that outlines the task expectations and assessment criteria. It may be accompanied by more detailed marking guidelines or performance descriptions that outline expected achievement at different standards/level (Section 4).

Fail Absent

Now defined as the student has failed for non-submission of assessment task or non-attendance at a required assessment (Schedule 1, 2.6).

Group work requirements

Faculty Boards may grant an exception to group work assessment requirements for a particular assessment task on the basis of a sound pedagogical argument. Exemptions and their rationale must be recorded in the Schedule and noted in the Unit Guide (Schedule 2, 2.4).

Further attempt at hurdle task

The following statement has been added if their performance in the unit is otherwise satisfactory (Schedule 2, 3.4). Exemptions may be granted by the Faculty Board on the basis of a sound pedagogical argument. Exemptions and their rationale must be recorded in the Schedule and noted in the Unit Guide (Schedule 2, 3.5).

Grading second attempts at hurdle tasks

These will be graded on a Pass/Fail basis (Schedule 2, 3.6).
