Our presentation guide was published in 2015 and is still going strong (after updating a couple of links!). Here is a quick intro, written by Lucy Arthur in the original Teche.

Almost half of employers rate communication skills as their top hiring criteria, so it’s no wonder oral presentations often form part of student assessment.  Help for students is at hand via a fantastic guide produced by Macquarie University.

A step-by-step walk-through toward nailing that presentation, Presentations for Assessment: A guide covers:

  • Brainstorming and research
  • Designing, building and adding visuals
  • Improving your delivery
  • Reflecting on the process

TIP FOR TUTORS

If you’re thinking of using the guide, students say it’s a good idea to print copies so that groups can work on the planning sheet together in class.

With employability skills on the agenda for all faculties, I hope the guide, created in a project for FBE with Dr. Chris Bilsland and co-created with students, is worth bringing to people’s attention again. We had a great time making it!
