HF Associates Guest Presentation: Importance of Procedural Fairness in a student conduct investigation
(1pm – 2pm)

Helen Flemming, Principal Owner and Director of HF Associates joins us to discuss the importance of procedural fairness in a student conduct investigation. Prior to opening her own practice, Helen was the General Counsel and University Secretary at Western Sydney University. This presentation is to provide staff with the reasoning behind conduct investigation complexities. This presentation will also discuss the regulatory environment beyond the university conduct process, such as the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, New South Wales Ombudsman, and Supreme Court.

What do Australian researchers think about integrity and its training?
(5pm – 6pm)

Springer Nature and the Australian Academy of Science conducted a survey of researchers from the Australian research community to find out what they know about research integrity and how it’s taught. Results were encouraging overall but also revealed some concerning gaps. A quarter of participants agreed strongly that there is a problem with “a lack of integrity in planning, conducting and reporting research to ensure reliable and reproducible research.” But this unease was disproportionately distributed across different discipline clusters. In this webinar, the results and findings will be explored.
