The Widening Participation Unit is inviting Expressions of Interest for the 2019 LEAP PEGS initiative.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor Programs and Pathways has allocated $200,000 of Higher Education Partnerships and Pathways Program (HEPPP) funding to be available for the 2019 LEAP Partnership Engagement Grant Scheme (PEGS).
LEAP PEGS was introduced in 2018 by the Pro-Vice Chancellor Programs and Pathways as part of the Widening Participation Strategic Framework 2018 – 2020. Along with the new Compact agreement structure, LEAP PEGS aims to encourage greater collaborative partnerships across the University community to help achieve a professional and learning environment that reflects the University’s “commitment to inclusiveness” (Our University: A Framing of Futures, Macquarie University 2013, p15).
Following Government HEPPP funding guidelines, LEAP PEGS supports initiatives that are focused on increasing the access, engagement, success and retention of students from underrepresented low-Socio Economic Status (SES) and other equity backgrounds.
In 2018 LEAP PEGS successfully supported twelve pilot initiatives that engaged over 17,000 students and delivered on the objectives to engage and empower low-SES students across an array of study stages. 2018 LEAP PEGS recipients included:
- Academics for Refugees,
- Bawurra Foundation,
- FBE PACE Internships
- Future Students School Outreach,
- Global Leadership Program Enrichment Activities,
- LEAP LINKS Digital Literacy,
- Low-SES Orientation Program,
- Partnership. Now. Always.
- Virtual Content 360 Outreach,
- Robert Menzies College Short Stay Program,
- Swim Safe Warriors,
- Yugul Mangi Education Hub.

Building on the success of LEAP PEGS in 2018, the Widening Participation Unit (WPU) is now inviting expressions of interest for LEAP PEGS in 2019. Together, we aim to expand our collaborative partnerships and broaden our network of community to deliver more empowering student opportunities that result in positive impact.
